She comes flapping out of a bush, a yellow brimstone butterfly giddy with April’s brief heat.

She circles me, wobbling on her vapour of excitement, of life. Great tits twitter in the trees around me.

Then she returns to the bush, disappearing behind a tall, broken elm tangled with vines; at its base little purple bursts of bluebells.
